A little plaid // PR&P Week 3

I had this idea in my mind for awhile. I came across an adorable blue plaid dress paired with an infinity mustard colored scarf while browsing on Pinterest. I knew that was the color scheme I wanted to go with.

I fell in love with these Daphne knickers from Violette Field Threads. I wasn't planning to buy and new patterns or fabric for PR&P but I broke my own rule and bought the pattern. And I'm glad I did!

I searched through my stash and found these plaid shorts I found at an estate sale for $2. Blue, gray, white and a little mustard. Perfect! There wasn't enough plaid fabric for the waistband or ruffle but I had some solid gray lying around and it was the perfect complement to the colors. These just fit her so hopefully she doesn't have a growth spurt anytime soon!

I had a hard time deciding on the color and style if the shirt. I've been using lots of prints lately and knew I wanted a solid with the plaid. But what color? Gray, mustard, blue? I started making a mustard colored shirt and it just wasn't working for me. I still plan to make it so she can have a few shirts to wear with these shorts. So I decided to make another Skipper top (by Sew Much Ado). I cut up an old t-shirt and and kept the original hem.

Then I used the mustard fabric for the infinity scarf. When M tried it on, she started giggling like crazy!

I was going to leave it with just those items but when we made plans to go apple picking, I decided to make a cardigan! She needs one and it was going to be chilly so win-win! 

I found some blue and gray knit and I like the simple colors. I used the Greenpoint Cardigan by Hey June! Also, it's unisex so if it lasts long enough I can just switch out the flower buttons so Henri can wear it! Hmm, why did I use white thread instead of gray? Silly me...

It's a different color pallet than I normally go with for my girl. And it's pretty gender neutral, but I love it! And she loves each piece as well!!

PRAP Week 2: Candy Theme

Oh, Candy. Confession time. I am a sugar addict. I love candy. My favorites are in the gummy family. Jelly beans, red vines, laffy taffy, starburst, red licorice, just to name a few! So when the candy them for Project Run and Play was announced I was so excited!

I knew immediately that I would get some inspiration by watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And within the first 5 minutes, I knew the color scheme that I wanted to use. Before starting these projects I decided that I would use mostly all fabric and patterns from my stash. So I searched and found the perfect fabric.

Here is a screen shot of my inspiration. The uniforms worn by the original workers for Willy Wonka. Red, white, stripes, black bow tie. Love it all!

And it ties in with my favorite candy. Red vines and licorice. I could eat a tub of red vines in a very short amount of time. :)

I was able to be a pattern tester for this Circle Dress from Kikoi Patterns. And I knew that this would be perfect for my licorice themed dress. This pattern came together very easily and Miette adores the double circle skirt. And the bow tie. Though she constantly tries to pull the front bow tie off...not sure why.

And look at the back. Another bow! Miette asks to wear this dress almost every day so she can twirl. Such a fun outfit for my little one.

Yes, a lot of candy was consumed while doing the photo shoot and also while sewing. And how cute is this store? It's a candy shop in Corona Del Mar and these over sized cupcakes, cones and lollipops are so adorable!

I knew that the fabric I chose for the bodice wouldn't line up perfect for the circle skirt. So I decided to use a solid red with the striped fabric as the under skirt. And I like how it breaks it up. My husband thought it was a peppermint themed dress and it could definitely go that way as well!

Here are some detail shots. I wish I had some shots of her twirling but she is just way too fast and my camera couldn't capture it! I had a great time dreaming up this dress and I'm so happy with how it turned out.

Madonna Ruffle Top // Pattern Testing

Shwin and Shwin/Shwin Designs just released the first of their new Fall pattern line. The Madonna Ruffle Top. I had the pleasure of testing this adorable knit top and it was so fun to sew.

It came together quickly with the ruffles taking the longest amount of time but it was still easy to sew in under two hours!

This was my first time using a knit from JoAnns Fabric and I'll be honest, I didn't like it. The stretch was strange and I think it caused the shirt to size to be off a bit. I think this knit will continue to grow and stretch over time. Oh well, it has an adorable sprinkle pattern paired with ruffles! And my girl loves sprinkles! 

I didn't have a chance to sew one with long sleeves but I will very soon. The sleeves are slightly puffed and are too cute.

My Miette LaRue is growing so very fast. She is just precious, hilarious, silly and sweet. I love this kid!

Popover Sundress Remix. PRAP Week 1.

Hello! I'm so excited about this month. I've been busy sewing and I can finally share my projects with you! It's my first time sewing along with Project Run and Play and its been fun planning each item to sew.

 

Week 1 is a pattern remix. Using the Popover Sundress by Oliver and S, the task was to remix it however you see fit. I loved the original dress and I needed a sundress for Miette since the weather has been in the 90's! So I didn't change the original pattern much. Just in the details. It also came with a pattern to make a dress for a doll. And since M has been very much into matching outfits (for her doll, me, my husband), I had to make her doll one as well!

She decided to read a few stories to her Madeline doll for the photoshoot. She just sat here, reading, for such a long time. I love her love for reading.

 

I adore this fabric. I used a vintage floral sheet that I picked up at an estate sale for the main fabric. 

My changes: 

I did a little color blocking at the bottom, in pink

Used store bought orange bias tape, shortened it so it would just tie, added cream eyelet trim for the arms and ties

And I love buttons so I added a few in orange.

Oh, and this cute doll? I made it using the Ruby Lou Doll pattern from Sew Much Ado. I made it for her birthday, my take on a doll from the book Madeline. And she loves her.

Sometimes you have a vision and it works. Other times it takes some work and it still isn't perfect. My first idea for the straps looked great, but they kept falling off her shoulders. So, I made a few adjustments and I'm happy with the straps but I still want to figure out how I can make the first way work.

Isn't she just precious? I love the vintage look of this dress. My little girl loves playing in the dirt, mud and grass so hopefully I can keep this dress somewhat clean.
